Homework

This is a repost from the blog of a friend of mine, but it was too right to leave as a hidden gem.

Here is an explanation of the school homework policy for the average student. Students should not spend more than ninety minutes per night. This time should be budgeted in the following manner if the student desires to achieve moderate to good grades in his/her classes.

15 minutes looking for assignment.

11 minutes calling a friend for the assignment.

23 minutes explaining why the teacher is mean and just does not like children.

8 minutes in the bathroom.

10 minutes getting a snack.

7 minutes checking the TV Guide.

6 minutes telling parents that the teacher never explained the assignment.

10 minutes sitting at the kitchen table waiting for Mom or Dad to do the assignment.

That was really funny; here is the parents take on homework:

7 minutes searching for the right song on their IPod

3 minutes looking for the assignment

10 minutes finding a friend on face book (or MSN)to tell them what the assignment is

10 more minutes talking to the friend on facebook (or MSN) about what happened in school that day (it is a local phone call) and meaningless, IDK,GTG,LOL etc..because they are getting help with their assignment.

15 minutes explaining to the parent why the teacher hates every-one and half of the class doesn't understand the assignment, and the test never has anything on it that the book says, and the teacher doesn't explain anything, and the teacher said they were talking when they weren't even talking but everyone else was talking and they didn't get yelled at for talking...
Well you get it by now! (This is a plea for do the assignment for me pleeeeeeze, I need you)

15 minutes for the parent to tell them why they should do the assignment anyway. Tell them about the merits of learning; how they are smart enough to figure it out even with the limitations of a teacher.

20 minutes for the parent to figure out the assignment

10 minutes for the parent to do the assignment (because by now it is easier to just do it yourself.)

Harmony in the home the rest of the night.

The next day the parent is crushed because they only got a C on the assignment. (Maybe they were right about that teacher?)

Isn't this funny? It's all too true, as I've already learned in my first year of teaching.
