Goals

You may think that I've gone all Bucket List or Last Lecture, or maybe that I've taken a cue from the cute little boxes of Strident gum that list 20 things that are on the "to do" list (including 1) find Nessie 2) bowl a perfect 300 3) swim underwater until your face puckers), but I've set a few goals for myself. Things I want to accomplish in my life. Childhood dreams that somehow take a back seat when you become an adult with a family & a career. I think finishing the half-marathon was what has led me to believe that I can accomplish anything on my to do list. Most recent on my list are the following: 1) audition for and perform in a play (or a movie, or anything that requires acting beyond the teacher show I put on for my students on a daily basis)
2) learn to speak Spanish fluently

What do you want to do?

I, too, want to learn Spanish.

IN FACT, I once convinced myself that - hey - I can do it all by myself! Even though I no practical application for the language! Unfortunately, I bought a set of like 20 CDs on a whim.

So...if you're interested. They aren't being used currently.

Okay, they were never used.

I want to get a job. It is something that I have only done off and on. After that I want to stay home.

Next I want to borrow the set of 20 CD's.

Finally I want to have a kids camp in the summer. All the grandchildren come for a week and give the parents a break. Than send them all home.

1. To be fluent in a foreign language. Chinese would be cool, but, man, that is one tricky language to learn.

2. To be published in a forum other than the Interweb. Yes, in a real "printed on paper by a publishing house you've heard of and have book readings at Border's and stuff" kind of way.

3. To sing really well. In public. Without vomiting from stage fright.

4. To live in a building that was, at one time, something other than a house.

5. To lose ten pounds.

1. I also want to be published and give readings. That would be cool.
2. I want to go to Amsterdam. Assume what you wish.
3. Get my master's degree (which should have happened ages ago)
4. Get a Genius Grant
5. Avoid dying in a way that earns me a Darwin Award.

1. Travel to Africa.
2. Write a book. I've always wanted to be a published writer.
3. Meet Ben Roethlisberger. And marry him.
4. Have Ben's children.
5. Spend Ben's money.

Oh yeah, I forgot that I have another goal too: to paint something that will qualify as "wall art" for my house.

Holly, your brother is hilarious!

Ok, here's my updated list since it looks like rock star is not going to happen (although I can still dream). This is no particular order.

1. I want to speak better Spanish
2. Own a Mustang (either the horse or the car - at this point I don't think either will happen - much like the rock star dream)
3. Sky dive
4. Meet and marry Mr Right
5. Return to Argentina, zipline through the jungle, and then go see the penguins at the bottom of the world
6. Lose many pounds
7. Run another half marathon

Ok. Let's do it. I also found something else I want to do this summer. There is a new event - the Minneapolis Duathlon. It begins with a 5K then an 18 mile bike ride and ends with another 5K. It seems to be open to all ability levels and there is a free commuter backpack for registrants. I'm going to do it. Why don't you do it with me for something new. Don't let the 18 miles scare you - it's not hard to do on a bike.

Here's the other thing. If you're not already registered on the Monster Dash facebook page, then do it. All members who register get a free pair of running socks. The only thing is you have to go down to Mill City Museum area on Dec 31 or Jan 1 to pick them up in person. If you do, you can also have the pleasure of picking mine up (if you don't mind that is). I can send you the email if you like and links for both (the socks and the duathlon) are in it.
